Anti Bullying Policy

At St Anne's we believe that bullying is not acceptable no matter what the excuse is.

Bullying can be one of many things, it can be

  • Being unfriendly or not allowing someone to play in your game.
  • Pushing, kicking, hitting, hair pulling or hurting someone in any other way.
  • Name calling, being sarcastic, spreading rumours or teasing.

If any of these things happen just once then it is not really bullying, it might just be that your friends have "fallen out" or have had an arguement about something. However if this kind of behaviour carries on then it does become bullying.

How to cope with Bullying

If you are being bullied or know someone else who is being bullied you must tell someone. You could tell a playleader, or a buddy, a teacher, a classroom helper, a dinner lady, a parent who helps in school or any adult who works in school.

You could put a note in the class "worry box"

School will then follow the "seven steps approach". This means that we will try and make the bully or bullies realise how unkind they are being.

The Seven Steps are

  1. An adult will have a friendly chat with the person who is being bullied to make sure that they do not feel frightened and upset and to let then know that something is being done.
  2. The same adult will then have a chat with all the people involved.
  3. The problem will be explained to everyone so that they are aware of how much their behaviour is hurting or upsetting someone.
  4. Everyone concerned is made responsible for what they have done.
  5. They will be asked for ideas about how to make sure that they do not behave like this again.
  6. The group will be given time to sort out the problem and let the person who they were bullying know that they are sorry.
  7. The group will meet again with the adult after two weeks to make sure that everything is still okay and nobody is worried.

Everything that has taken place will be written down in a special book to make sure nothing is forgotten and then it should not take place again.

Remember always tell somebody if you are unhappy
